Near, far, wherever you are...

Looks like you'd have to walk more than a mile for a camel.
Sorry folks I've signed up three times and it still won't recognize my pass word. So I remain a nonny mouse.

That's a good one nonny mouse!

Do they really leave the camel skeleton outside like that?

that's a pretty grim sight.

Life...has a different value here. There is what looks like an entire camel train of skeletons in the desert there...and more grim, because there is no bacteria in the sand, beneath the sand it is still...camel. Ugh. I asked some of the local children about the bones and they said, very matter-of-factually and with no sentiment whatsoever that the camels were sick and had to be killed. I didn't ask what the sickness was, being limited by language. As for leaving the corpses there, the desert, sadly, is a real dumping ground for all sorts of things in some areas . Fortunately, some folks have been organising Clean the Desert parties to pick up rubbish; the camels are none too bright with their food choices (they have been able to eat almost anything for eons, you see) and sometimes ingest plastic bags which eventually kills even the tough camel.

Your additional comment was interesting. Such a different world.......though a whale just came on shore in Seattle with 20 plastic bags, golf balls and a pair of human sweat pants inside his stomach. Lovely.
